Self-Awareness Is Crucial for Productivity

For many, giving attention is a difficult task since there are many distractions. Distractions can come in different forms whether it will be thoughts, noise, visuals, or anything else. It is quite a challenge for most to close out distractions or maintain their attention on tasks. Memory is often difficult to maintain sharpness. Human memory is vast but there is so much someone can remember from every lesson or action being done. Receptivity is important when being in any place. The individual will make observations and make a response based on their 5 senses. Being aware is crucial since consciousness helps identifies the situation.

Awareness is Key to Efficiency

To do work well one must be efficient, so awareness plays a part where the individual becomes awakened. In terms of where they are internally and what is occurring around them. This makes apprehending issues somewhat easier in challenging situations. Instead of escaping into thoughts where there may not be any solutions. The person is aware of what is in front of them and they pay attention to the core problem. More importantly, the person will acknowledge themselves regarding how they feel and their overall health.

Another benefit to awareness is staying organized with any tasks in mind. This comes in handy when needing to prioritize some form of work. As many would like to be productive there are blockers in the way. Especially, in modern times there are a plethora of excuses since there are or can be interferences with objectives. However, some of these distractions can come from the individual themself. Human beings tend to be compulsive or impulsive in other words having needs and wants. Addiction is also another form of distraction. All of these can lead to a number of addictions (not only to drugs and alcohol) even though some activities are not considered addictions.

Balanced and ready!

What Causes These Types of Behaviors?

If a particular activity feels good the body and brain will remember this sensation. It is possible it can become habitual which can lead to continuous involvement. Here are examples that are heavily used:

  • Digital devices
  • Unhealthy eating
  • Shopping
  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Smoking
  • And others

There are other forms of addiction and people have fallen into all these types of activities that affect all aspects of their life. The issue is that there is no control.

Are There Ways to Develop Awareness?

Awareness can be practiced and must be practiced daily. This way the individual is staying accountable rather than simultaneously looking and thinking about other things. With practice, the person will have clarity and doing any form of work will be done efficiently with minimal mistakes. If the person’s inner environment is well they will be able to handle the external environment well. Let’s get down to practices:

  • Breathing: thich nhat hanh said it best “Breathing in, be aware of your body. Breathing out, release all tension in your body”
  • Stretching: There is also breathing involved with stretching and tension is being released in different regions of the body.
  • Balance exercises: With balancing, there must be concentration since distractions will cause someone to lose balance. There also must be deep breaths as that will keep someone balanced.
  • Observe Oneself: At all times a person may not be conscious of their own environment primarily their actions, words, or thoughts. It is the individual’s responsibility to keep a close eye on themselves.
  • 5 Senses: Psychologists used this exercise to help patients relieve their anxiety. 5 things you see. 4 things you feel. 3 things you hear. 2 things you smell. 1 thing you taste.
  • Yoga: Yoga is the ultimate method to practice higher self-awareness. It is a combination of stretching, balance, and deep breathing. Yoga means union to become one with the mind, body, and spirit. On top of this, it is also healthy for the body.

Many of these activities have to do with breathing properly as it keeps one balanced and aware. This is very much like stillness as one will have energy and mental clarity.

Wrap Up!

All in all, self-awareness is what keeps us from being distracted. With awareness, the person is stable and is capable of maintaining themselves. Completing tasks will be less frustrating since the individual is providing attention to what is happening now. Compulsive behavior and addiction can be a strong urge to overcome because of the person’s bond with certain activities. But there are methods to remediate them and create balance within. Primarily, keeping one healthy and conscious so that the being can perform at their highest capabilities.
