Brain fog is when someone is feeling mentally sluggish. People tend to have difficulty thinking and trying to remember something. A person will lack clarity and this affects cognitive performance. There are several factors as to why brain fog can occur. Generally, the brain does not stop functioning however it does need rest. Rest as in using it less or being put to sleep. One of the bigger issues of brain fog is when a person is feeling exponentially tired. As the individual is mentally tired they can also be physically tired. 

Other than being physically tired the brain is still needed to be used while being awake. The brain is the human’s forefront of intelligence and movement. Therefore, nurturing brain health is equally crucial to maintaining overall bodily wellness.

What Factors Impact Brain Health

Simply how the body is being treated also treats the brain well for the most part. Brain fog can be affected by diet, lack of rest, dehydration, stress, or other illnesses. Another factor that affects brain health is cognitive overload. This element can cause some disasters to the brain and often times people with curiosity about subjects can go down this way. Or People who have too much to do and they try to finish it as fast as they can. 

This could come in many forms from doing work, studying a new tool that is very complex, having many options (decision fatigue), multitasking, and others. On top of health issues when there are too many forms of stimuli being registered to the body then there could be loads of the information the brain is taking in. With this in mind, it becomes harder to concentrate or even be in a better mood. All of what was mentioned leads to mental fatigue, which should be avoided. Otherwise, memory will be impacted as well as paying attention. 

Stimulation 

It is quite complex not to take in stimulation since it is everywhere. Whether it will be in a loud environment, work office, home, or even digital screens. It cannot be avoided the best a person can do is to minimize these forms of stimulation. This is not to say stimulation is a negative thing but if experiencing overstimulation then it causes an issue like mental fatigue which can contribute to the feeling of brain fog. As mentioned the brain has a limit to how much it can process. If prioritizing some work, limiting distractions will help the brain stay concentrated and will not fatigue. 

Practices That Can Help Reduce Brain Fog

There are practices that can be taken into consideration to help alleviate brain fog. They are quite simple however it will require a little bit of effort. The length of time brain fog lasts varies from person to person. It could last from days to years depending on the individual’s lifestyle. If wanting to prevent or be relieved from having brain fog a person can do these activities to help them. 

  • Digital Detox: A person has access to much information and exposure to light from their smartphones or other devices. Too much can affect brain chemistry and one can experience cognitive overload. It also affects sleep quality. 
  • Diet: Nutrition does not only fuels the body but the brain as well. Nutrients from food are carried in the bloodstream, delivering vital nourishment throughout the entire body, including the brain.
  • Walking: This has a plethora of benefits as it helps improve memory and reduce stress. 
  • Minimize Sensory input: This means a person will have to “isolate” themselves for a little. It is only a break from all things stimulating. 
  • Rest: Learn to rest, this is mandatory regardless of whether you are healthy or not.

Brain fog is not a major threat but it can cause someone to feel low and be less aware. The feeling of brain fog can occur based on nutritional deficiencies, lack of rest, tension, and other factors. What is imperative to do is maintain mind and body health to feel optimal. Tiredness feels as though the person is not engaged at any stage in life.  When wanting to be active or needing to concentrate brain fog can deter a person from doing so.
