Simple Concepts to Increase Productivity and Decrease Distraction

Distractions can limit your productivity or even your well-being. Distractions can come in many forms whether it is at home or outside. The idea is to do the complete opposite; it is to limit your distractions. When doing this it offers great benefits. Why? The person concentrates with great intensity which leads to finishing your task. Being naturally involved in a process will help an individual get closer to their end goal. Many times people are told to focus or concentrate, but most of the time people result in “trying” which tends to fail. The human mind generates so much thought and it can be difficult to manage.

There are many methods a person can implement natural ways to focus on their duties. So the idea is to limit distractions and not think about the end goal (Thinking about the end result is a distraction). Now, remember “doing what is needed” is a strong starting point since it is a reminder of what needs to be done. Think of it as prioritizing your important work. In this post, we will discuss some practices which may help you be productive.

Eliminate or Minimize

In order to concentrate naturally, there is a need to eliminate or minimize your distractions. It is best to take a piece of paper and pen and write down a list of distractions. From there the issues are identified and action can be taken to resolve them. Some examples could be noisy environments, smartphone notifications, imagination, or others. Everyone has some form of distraction in their vicinity. An example could be to keep your phone out of reach for a certain period of time. Some put their phone in a different room and others put theirs on silent and out of sight. If a person lives in a noisy home the individuals can go to the library and do their work.

Thinking less, Do more

It is quite common for most to think about the outcome or anything else. Thinking actually does more harm than good since thinking requires energy which means executing on the task becomes somewhat difficult (Thinking also makes you tired).  When people think “I just want to get this done” people do not absorb much of the information nor produce any greater output. Because so much time was wasted thinking. The best course of action is to become fully involved in what subject or project the person is working on. This means literally doing without putting the focus on the outcome when the result was already thought of (some things do not go according to plan).

Depending on the project that is being worked on. The person may need fewer breaks or more breaks. If the project requires much effort then more breaks would need to be used. Over time, a person can get tired which can decrease performance. It is best to take a short rest in between such as taking a short stroll, stretching, or sitting still and breathing. Browsing the internet, scrolling through apps, or even thinking about other stuff is taxing to the mind. Just be still.

Make it fun or interesting

A person becomes naturally involved when they are doing something fun. When doing this there is an interest in extending time on the activity/task. Full attention is given to the project, so one must make it interesting to them. An example can be exploring the concept the person is working on. If it has to do with studying a subject, explore the topic. In addition to this, you can use some form of reference to the subject to make it easier to learn. If this is being done you would have a stronger understanding of the subject. Many times it is difficult to start to learn or do. But primarily it is about building momentum and finding the rhythm. Get creative and inspired.

Be Healthy

Health has to do with everything the person does and how they feel. The unhealthy tend to waste more time in pain with their body or mind. This has to be the biggest distraction of all. This can lead to being lethargic, having mood swings, and being sick. Some things to consider when wanting to avoid this.

  • Avoid processed sugars/foods.
  • Get enough rest.
  • Eat enough whole foods for the day.
  • Yoga/Meditation/Exercise.
  • Spend more time in positive environments.

It is imperative to treat the body as a temple since it will take care of the person in control. Keep in mind the human brain only uses 20% of energy whereas the body uses 80%. The bullet points mentioned above are crucial for everyday health to function well. The concept is to be alert at all times since the mind can go somewhere whereas the body remains in the present.
